About Yoga

Revitalize offers private and studio yoga classes for students of all abilities.

Classes are tailored to suit the individual’s needs and students are encouraged to explore the postures at their own pace and intensity.

Feeling stressed?  The movement and breathing practices will help you come out of the mind (we’re all familiar with those looping stress patterns) and back into your body, giving you a sense of relief and coming home to yourself.

Feeling stiff? No problem, you’ve come to the right place! Everybody’s body is different and each class offers the space to explore postures in a way that respects how your body feels on any given day.

Yoga has evolved over thousands of years to embrace a wide range of styles and disciplines. I specialise in teaching a form of Hatha yoga called Integral yoga, Yin Yoga and also pre & post natal yoga.

My goal is that when you leave the class you feel more centred, calm and connected to your body and breath.

The word “yoga” comes from the Sanskrit root “yuj” which means “to yoke” the spirit and physical body together, creating union.

According to the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali, which are ancient texts estimated to date back to the 2nd century BC , yoga is the stilling of the disturbances of the mind. In fact, throughout Patanjali’s philosophy on yoga very little is said about the practice of asanas (postures), described simply as a steady, comfortable posture.

Meanwhile much attention is given to examining how to control and focus the mind, the ultimate goal of yoga being self-realization.

So whatever your initial reasons for coming to the yoga mat, through regular practice you will soon discover the stillness within and tranquillity of mind that yoga practice promotes. Added benefits of course include increased flexibility, tone and strength. Yoga also helps the body to create an inner environment which facilitates improved health.

Integral Yoga® Hatha was brought to the west in the 1960’s by Swami Satchidanada from India, a spiritual teacher and one of the most revered Yoga Masters of our time.

Integral Yoga® Hatha is a comprehensive system for personal transformation – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Each class incorporates posture, deep relaxation, breathing practices, and meditation that result in a profound experience of peace and well-being.

During the class students will focus on the breath, moving with the breath and drawing greater awareness of the space the body occupies. The first section of the class focusses on a series of asanas (postures) designed to stimulate every system in the body. Through regular practice, students should find increased strength, flexibility, tone and mobility.

In Yin Yoga the focus of the practice is on yin energy – release, rather than striving (yang energy).

In other words we release the muscles (yang body tissue) which allows us to then access the connective tissues where tension, emotion and energy can be held or ….
